Casino Rama’s History

Casino Rama is owned by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and was officially opened on the July 31st, 1996. The casino resort underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2016. The casino’s operation was previously managed by Penn National Gaming Inc. of Pennsylvania, USA and was eventually contracted to Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited of British Columbia, Canada.

In 2007, Casino Rama was the largest single site employer of First Nations people in Canada with over 700 First Nations employees.

The casino’s gaming operations are conducted and managed under the auspices of OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation), which is the Ontario government agency that conducts and manages gaming facilities as well as the sale of province-wide lottery games. The OLGC also operates PlayOLG internet gaming, bingo and other electronic gaming products at Charitable Gaming Centres. The government agency also helps to build the foundation for a more sustainable horse racing industry in Ontario.
