Blackjack strategy is defined as the proper play of cards knowing only your hand and the dealer’s exposed card. Therefore, the strategy is created through intensive computer simulations which perform a complete combinatorial analysis.
In this method, the computer “plays” tens of thousands of hands for each Blackjack situation possible and statistically decides which decision favours the player the most.
Every experienced blackjack player knows that a player needs more. For example, counting, deviations, true count conversions and betting strategy are all necessary to really beat the blackjack game.
About Our Basic Strategy Card
This basic strategy table above shows that the dealer’s up card is in the first row. Your two card combination is in the first column. Therefore, the other entries tell you what to do with the different combinations of dealer and player’s hands.
S = Stand, H = Hit, D = Double Down and SP = Split.
How to improve your Blackjack basic strategy
If you have the option to surrender, you’ll subsequently have the option to do so on the first two cards you’re dealt. It won’t be possible to surrender if you’ve already taken a hit card. Thus, playing your hand, just ask yourself whether you should surrender at all, IF you can.
After that, if you can’t surrender, consider splitting. You’ll only get this option if your first two cards are a pair or if you have two ten-valued cards. Split if you can but if you can’t, then consider doubling.
If you can double, it means you’re likely to win the hand! Some casinos restrict doubling on certain hands so if it’s not possible at all, then ask yourself whether you can hit or stand. Choose to hit or stand if none of the other previous options were possible.
